The aim of this ambitious Wessex Helicopter Restoration Project is to acquire and restore to flying condition a Westland Wessex helicopter. Whilst we do not underestimate the enormity of the task ahead we passionately believe it can be achieved, it will be hard work and a long road but the end result will be the Queen of the Skies airborne again - where she belongs. Please publicise the Wessex Helicopter Restoration Project wherever and whenever you can, we will not succeed without your support.
The Wessex Helicopter Restoration Project is starting from the very beginning, we have identified a number of suitable helicopter airframes which we are actively persuing, the funds needed to purchase one are the first goal of this project. Once we have secured the helicopter airframe we need to find a suitable home for it and gather together the team that will actually carry out the restoration, again something we are pulling together. There are a number of volunteers who have already come forward for the restoration phase of the project but we are always happy to hear from anyone interested in helping.
The Wessex Helicopter Restoration Project is not only about the restoration of an aircraft but about informing and educating the general public about Military Helicopters and their importance in our countries defence and safety. We not only aim to preserve some heritage but encourage interest in the future. In time we hope to stage exhibitions and talks about the Wessex Helicopter Restoration Project at airshows and other suitable venues, any ideas please let us have them.
